June Bestsellers
June is a key month for planning autumn and winter production. In this selection you will find the best-selling products of the month for professional growers: the full range of chicories, with special focus on the pink chicory varieties Passerina and Jolanda, Catalogna chicory “Medusa” (puntarelle), early Treviso radicchio “Regina Rossa”, Creazzo Fiolaro broccoli “Filius”, Bassano broccoli “Bonorivo” and “Mezzano”, and wild rocket varieties Touche and Match.
Chicories and broccoli are suitable for nursery sowing between June and July for autumn harvests, while rocket is for direct sowing, allowing harvest as early as 20 days after sowing.
WHAT TO SOW IN JUNE
June and July are transitional months in agriculture: spring crops are in full production, but it is the right time to set up the autumn and winter calendar. Professional growers buying in June already know what they want to harvest in September and beyond. This collection reflects exactly those choices.
CHICORIES: THE MOST DEMANDED CATEGORY
Chicories dominate the June ranking because summer sowing is the correct technical timing for their production. Passerina and Jolanda are the two most requested pink chicories: Passerina, excellent for January harvests thanks to its uniform pink color and tender leaves; Jolanda is an early selection that brings harvests forward by a few weeks—useful for covering the December window. Medusa Catalogna chicory from Galatina is the absolute reference for puntarelle production: wide and full stems, compact structure, reliable cycle. Very interesting for preparing puntarelle salad is our Puntarelle Cutter!Regina Rossa is the choice for producers of early Treviso red chicory with a medium cycle, for November harvests.
The extra early Vesuvio, to start sowing immediately.
VENETO BRASSICAS: LOCAL ECOTYPES NOT TO MISS
Filius, Bonorivo, and Mezzano represent the best Venetian ecotypes in the brassica category. Filius (ex SM4.54) is the Fiolaro broccoli from Creazzo: a rare ecotype highly appreciated by local restaurants, with its characteristic sweet flavor developed by the cold climate. Bonorivo (ex XS140) and Mezzano are the two benchmarks for Bassano broccoli: Bonorivo is earlier, Mezzano has a larger head; both target the fresh market. Hurry to secure seed to be ready for July sowing and August transplanting. Harvest will be ready in November and December.
WILD ROCKET: THREE VARIETIES TO COVER THE SUMMER
Touche, Game, and Match are three wild rocket varieties with distinct profiles. Touche, the quintessential summer variety and Fusarium-resistant, is also available in multiseed32 format for transplanting and precision sowing, suitable for bunch harvesting. Game is the choice for those seeking thick leaves and dark color. Match, an all-season variety resistant to Fusarium and tolerant to downy mildew (Bremia), is the most versatile for the indicated period and also suitable for other seasons.
All three are suitable for June sowing for baby leaf and cut production in summer-autumn.
