Also known as “Bronzino,” the Albenga Broccoli (it is a cauliflower indeed) is one of the agricultural excellences of the Albenga Plain in Liguria region, thanks to its millennia-old history. Once widely cultivated in the plains of western Liguria, it is said to have been introduced by the ancient Romans. It is, in fact, an ancestral version of Romanesco Cauliflower, with which it shares its origins and, even today, many morphological traits. It reaches maturity more than 100 days after transplanting. The foliage resembles that of ancient leaf broccoli, deeply serrated, and the head, the true commercial product, is compact, light green colored, and highly appreciated for its excellent flavor. When it reaches maturity, the broccoli retains its organoleptic qualities for a long time, fading slowly.
