Calibrated seeds are seeds that are mechanically selected by size (diameter) after harvest, to ensure maximum uniformity in precision mechanical sowing. Unlike pelleted seeds, the calibrated seed maintains its natural shape: it is only separated into diameter classes.

Often confused with pelleted seeds, professional calibrated seeds are in fact a distinct product. Calibration is a selection process by size (sieving by diameter) that does not alter the structure of the seed: the result is a natural, clean seed of uniform diameter. Pelleted seeds, instead, receive an additional coating that changes their shape and size. Both technologies serve precision sowing, but in different contexts: calibrated seed is suitable for species with already sufficiently large and regular seeds, while pelleted seed is used for very small-seeded species.
