On March 9, 2026, LA RAPA BENDATA hosted an outstanding event: a workshop focused on brassicas, radicchio, and forcing techniques. It was a moment of direct exchange with growers, nurseries, and professional growers, where our Andrea presented the Smarties.bio company vision, focusing on genetic research, sustainability, and continuous technical support for farms. The meeting represented an important opportunity to explore, in a practical way, the management of some of the most strategic crops for professional horticulture.

Introduction to Smarties.bio and agronomic approach
The day began with an overview of Smarties.bio’s identity: a company focused on developing high-performing varieties adaptable to different climatic conditions. Andrea emphasized the importance of collaboration with growers as a key element for continuously improving varietal selection and meeting market demands. The following topics were addressed:
- Varietal adaptability
- Production uniformity
- Genetic resistance
- Biodiversity preservation
Focus on the brassica range
One of the central moments of the workshop was dedicated to the Smarties.bio brassica range. The main characteristics of the varieties were presented, with particular attention to:
- Plant vigor
- Uniform ripening
- Resistance to climatic stress
- Commercial product quality
- Adaptability to different growing cycles
The direct exchange allowed participants to discuss real field issues, such as temperature management and transplant planning at different times of the year.
Insights on radicchio
Ample space was also dedicated to radicchio cultivation, a crop of great importance for many local farms. Andrea illustrated:
- The different radicchio types
- Variety selection based on the production calendar
- Control of vegetative development
- Head quality
The goal was to provide practical tools to achieve uniform, high-quality production.

Forcing techniques and cultivation methods
The session on radicchio forcing was particularly appreciated by participants. Practical advice was shared on:
- Harvest timing
- Root preparation
- Water management
- Temperature control
The main cultivation methods were also presented, with suggestions to improve:
- Soil management
- Planting density
- Crop rotation
A direct exchange with growers
The workshop concluded with an open discussion among participants, who had the opportunity to share experiences and ask specific questions about their own farming operations. The meeting confirmed the importance of on-field technical training and direct relationships between seed companies and growers. Events like this perfectly reflect the Seed&Service philosophy of Smarties.bio: supporting farmers not only with innovative varieties, but also with solid and up-to-date agronomic expertise.
A special thanks to LA RAPA BENDATA farm for their hospitality and to all participants for their active contribution to the day.
